Kiarash Azali, Technical Director, Enterprise systems
How did you come to be in your current role?
I was always really interested in computer sciences ever since I was a teenager. I ended up studying computer hardware engineering at university.
While at college, I also started working in the computer networking field; doing everything from infrastructure, cabling, deploying complex computer networks, all the way to managing wireless operations.
I have worked with all kinds of organisations, from small companies to government entities, up until we setup Enterprise Systems to run distribution business with the real and true value added technical services.
What is your management philosophy?
I love Warren Buffet and when it comes to business and management, he is my mentor. I’ve got rules of success which I stick to and they are very much aligned with fundamental lessons that I have learned from his way of life. These include achieving a sense of simplicity, consistency and accuracy at work, as well as adhering to process and procedures in order to succeed at any endeavour.
I truly believe in the message behind one of his most recognisable quotes: “If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail.”
What was your first computer, and when did you first use it?
I was in love with computers and video games growing up, like any young boy, but luckily my uncle saw this as potential to advance in the field of IT and persuaded my father to buy me my very own computer when I was 13. It was a Hyundai Super–286N.
What is your greatest achievement?
Enterprise Systems has been my greatest achievement to date. It is an ongoing project and it gives me a feeling of accomplishment every day.
What is your biggest mistake?
I wish I had started reading at an earlier stage in my life. I have always regretted not having read many books, but it is a mistake that I can easily rectify. I believe nothing is a big enough mistake; a mistake can be turned into an opportunity and taken as a lesson for the future.
What is your fondest memory of working in the Middle East IT industry?
I believe this industry is special because of the people and the culture that it entails. It is a very fast paced industry and I love that about this region. There is never a boring moment.
What technology do you think will have the biggest impact on the market in 2016?
Hybrid Cloud
What’s the best way to deal with stress?
Yoga
